On Mar. 2, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office arrested Gerardo Garcia Gonzalez, a previously-deported Mexican national accused of ‘assaulting and fondling a minor under 15 years old,’ according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Gonzalez was hit with a slew of charges, including sexual assault of a victim older than 13 but younger than 16, sexual assault by force or coercion, criminal sexual contact, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Additionally, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer against Gonzalez, who was removed from the U.S. in 2001 but slipped back into the country at an unknown location and date.
DHS slammed officials in the sanctuary state, pointing out that many have worked actively to thwart federal immigration enforcement.
“Attorney General Jennifer Davenport created a portal to alert residents of ICE actions—a dangerous attempt to doxx agents. Democrats in the state legislature proposed the F**K ICE Act, a bill allowing residents to sue law enforcement as they already face a 1,300% increase in assaults and 8,000% increase in death threats against them,” DHS stated in a press release.
It remains unclear whether New Jersey authorities will honor the ICE detainer, which is noted in Gonzalez’s charging documents.
“This pedophile should NEVER have been in our country and able to prey on children in the first place,” said DHS Deputy Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis.
“We are calling on New Jersey sanctuary politicians to NOT release this predator charged with sexually assaulting a child from jail into New Jersey neighborhoods. This is the exact reason we need sanctuary jurisdictions to work with us. No one should want this sicko to be on our streets.”
