President Donald Trump posted to Truth Social on Friday, sending a warning message to Iran that America is “locked and loaded and ready to go” if “peaceful protesters” are shot and killed amid massive unrest in the Middle East nation following the collapse of its currency.
“If Iran shots and violently kills peaceful protesters, which is their custom, the United States of America will come to their rescue. We are locked and loaded and ready to go. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J.TRUMP,” he wrote.
Congressman Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) commented on Trump’s message, saying America “shouldn’t be wasting military resources on another country’s internal affairs,” that military strikes would “require Congressional authorization,” and suggesting the threat is about “the dollar, oil and Israel,” not freedom of speech.
Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani wrote on 𝕏, “Trump should know that intervention by the U.S. in the domestic problem corresponds to chaos in the entire region and the destruction of the U.S. interests. The people of the U.S. should know that Trump began the adventurism. They should take care of their own soldiers.”
Ali Shamkhani, an adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, also warned the U.S. that “any interventionist hand that gets too close to the security of Iran will be cut,” adding, “The people of Iran properly know the experience of ‘being rescued’ by Americans: from Iraq and Afghanistan to Gaza.”
Tensions with Iran have remained high since the Trump administration attacked three nuclear facilities in Iran back in June.
