A security guard alerted an Arlington County Police Department (ACPD) officer about a boy who had stolen merchandise and bolted from an unnamed store.
The suspect ignored officer commands to halt and a foot chase ensued.
The officer caught the boy, but while taking him into custody, he was ambushed and assaulted by another boy and girl, ACPD explained in a statement.
Additional officers and security guards arrived at the scene and all three teens were arrested.
“ACPD is asking for the first boy to charged with Shoplifting and Obstruction of Justice, and for the other two teens to be charged with Assault on a Police and Obstruction of Justice,” WJLA reports.
