Nine more members of the team led by Special Counsel Jack Smith that investigated President Trump have been fired by Attorney General Pam Bondi. Smith investigated the President for allegedly holding on to classified documents from his first term as president and for his efforts to contest the result of the 2020 election.

Two of the nine were prosecutors who had been working in US attorney’s offices in Florida and North Carolina, and the remaining seven were support staff.

Since Trump returned to power in January, the Department of Justice has purged a number of staff who were involved in investigations of the President and his supporters.

On 27 January, a week after President Trump’s inauguration, 14 attorneys who worked on Jack Smith’s team were fired.

At least 26 people who worked for Smith have been terminated since 20 January.

The Department of Justice has also fired multiple staff who handled casework relating to the prosecution of Trump supporters who were at the Capitol on 6 Jan 2021.

Late last month, two prosecutors and a supervisor were fired, and a number of probationary prosecutors who worked on 6 Jan cases have also been fired.

President Trump has pardoned over 1,500 people involved in the Jan 6th “insurrection.”
