Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faced criticism from his own military and intelligence community on Tuesday for his plan of expanding the war in Gaza . Notably, the current state of Gaza was described as completely destroyed by retired Green Beret Lt. Col. Tony Aguilar who told Tucker Carlson about the Israeli war crimes he witnessed as a food aid worker. Despite Gaza already being annihilated, the Israeli pushback to expanding the conflict stemmed from a much more self serving reason.
According to Reuters, three Israeli officials said that the country’s military Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir argued during a tense three-hour meeting Tuesday that “taking the rest of Gaza could trap the military in the territory, which it withdrew from two decades ago, and could lead to harm to the hostages being held there.”
Yoram Cohen, the former head of the Jewish state’s intelligence agency Shin Bet said Netanyahu’s objectives in Gaza are “a fantasy,” explaining that killing every terrorist is impossible.
“If anyone imagines that we can reach every terrorist and every pit and every weapon, and in parallel bring our hostages home — I think it is impossible,” Cohen said.

The pushback to Netanyahu’s plans were unsuccessful however, and now “the IDF will execute them with determination and professionalism,” according to Defense Minister Israel Katz who added “I must ensure that these things are carried out—and so it will be.”
Yes, just as published, I recommended Eyal Zamir for the position of IDF Chief of Staff, and the Prime Minister and the government approved my recommendation. I believed that at the crossroads where the IDF stood, he was the most suitable candidate to build and operate the force against the many security challenges facing us, due to his security perspective, capabilities, and extensive experience. Under his leadership, together with the heroic commanders and soldiers of the IDF, and under the guidance of the political echelon, the IDF is acting with an offensive policy and with strength in Lebanon, Syria, Judea and Samaria, Gaza, and other sectors—and led an astonishing, unprecedented, and victorious attack against Iran. Operation “Gideon’s Chariots” achieved many successes against Hamas in Gaza. Entire areas were captured and cleared of terrorists and terror infrastructure, both above and below ground, which were completely destroyed for the first time. Hamas’s refusal to release the hostages requires making additional decisions regarding how to advance the war’s objectives: eliminating Hamas while creating the conditions for the release of the hostages and ensuring the safety of Israeli communities from now and forever. It is the right and duty of the Chief of Staff to express his position in the appropriate forums, and after decisions are made by the political echelon, the IDF will execute them with determination and professionalism—as it has done so far in all sectors—until the war’s objectives are achieved. As the Defense Minister responsible for the IDF on behalf of the government, I must ensure that these things are carried out—and so it will be.
On Tuesday Trump said it is “up to Israel” whether they will occupy all of Gaza.
“As far as the rest of it, I really can’t say. That’s going to be pretty much up to Israel,” Trump said after explaining that he is focused on getting “people fed” in Gaza.
