Nestlé USA announced this week it seeks to remove synthetic food dyes from its food and drink products by mid-2026, a move that comes on the heels of fellow food giants General Mills, Kraft Heinz and Conagra Brands also ditching the harmful additives.

Marty Thompson, the CEO of Nestlé US operations, said, “Consumers enjoy a wide variety of foods and beverages as part of their daily diet. They want choice and value shaped by a dynamic – and highly personal – combination of nutrition, quality, price and convenience. As their diverse dietary preferences and nutritional needs evolve, we evolve with them.”

Many people are crediting Trump administration Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for pressuring companies to remove the chemical dyes after he announced in April that the FDA would be banning them in the next few years.

Kennedy Jr. said he wanted the American food supply to be free of synthetic food dyes to combat ADHD, obesity and diabetes.

The Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement is already improving the quality of popular U.S. foods and drinks.
