Despite a “very good” phone call with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey on Monday, the left-wing politician appears to have broken off the short-lived cooperation with Trump on Wednesday.

Surprisingly, Mayor Jacob Frey just stated that, “Minneapolis does not, and will not, enforce Federal Immigration Laws.” This is after having had a very good conversation with him. Could somebody in his inner sanctum please explain that this statement is a very serious violation of the Law, and that he is PLAYING WITH FIRE!

Frey responded by saying “The job of our police is to keep people safe, not enforce fed immigration laws. I want them preventing homicides, not hunting down a working dad who contributes to MPLS & is from Ecuador. It’s similar to the policy your guy Rudy had in NYC. Everyone should feel safe calling 911.”

Vice President JD Vance also made a statement on the issue.

After President Trump’s positive phone call with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Monday morning, the President had a “very good” call with Mayor Frey. The calls come as Minneapolis, Minnesota is gripped by anti-ICE riots and civil unrest targeting Trump’s deportation operations.

On Tuesday White House Border Czar Tom Homan traveled to the state on Tuesday where he met with Walz in the morning before meeting Frey later in the day.

The Mayor’s spokesperson reported that the meeting was “productive.” Frey’s main request to Homan was that “Operation Metro Surge” come to an end as soon as possible.

Operation Metro Surge is a large joint ICE/Border Patrol operation in Minnesota which has been getting pushback from violent Leftist agitators over the last several weeks.

Frey’s office released the following statement to FOX 9:

“I appreciated the conversation the chief and I had with Border Czar Homan. During our meeting, I reiterated that my main ask is for Operation Metro Surge to come to an end as quickly as possible. Public safety works best when it’s built on community trust – not tactics that create fear or division.”

“I shared with Mr. Homan the serious negative impacts this operation has had on Minneapolis and surrounding communities, as well as the strain it has placed on our local police officers. I also made it clear that Minneapolis does not and will not enforce federal immigration laws, and that we will remain focused on keeping our neighbors and streets safe. City leaders will continue to stay in conversation with Mr. Homan and his team.”
