Nearly 500 illegal workers have been detained at a massive workplace raid in Georgia.

Thursday’s raid took place at a Hyundai Motor facility under construction in Georgia and nabbed 450 illegals. The project to build a car battery factory.

An agent at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said multiple U.S. agencies “conducted a judicially authorised enforcement operation, as we are actively conducting an investigation into unlawful employment practices.”

“Arrests are being made,” Steven Schrank, special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations for Georgia, said in a news briefing.

The battery production facility, a joint venture between South Korean battery maker LG Energy Solution and Hyundai Motor, was due to start operations at the end of this year.

In 2023, Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution announced the $4.3 billion venture to produce EV battery cells. The plant will supply batteries for Hyundai, Kia and Genesis EV models.

The battery factory is part of Hyundai’s $12.6 billion investments in the state, including a new car factory, in what would be “the largest economic development project tab in the state’s history.”

High-profile raids on workplaces have been a major strategy of the second Trump administration, as well as the use of federal agents and military units from the National Guard and Marines.

Hundreds of federal agents and National Guard are now expected to be deployed to Chicago, as part of a major operation directed at increasing immigration enforcement and tackling crime.

According to The New York Times, at least 200 Homeland Security officials will be deployed to Chicago, where they will operate from the Great Lakes Naval Base and work to arrest illegal aliens across the so-called “sanctuary” state of Illinois.

It’s also rumoured that National Guard troops will be deployed to help ensure the Homeland Security officials are able to carry out their duties free from interference by protestors and rioters, like in Los Angeles.

CNN reports: “Chicago was among the first cities targeted in immigration enforcement operations when Trump took office in January. The administration also sued the city over its so-called sanctuary policies, though the case was dismissed when a judge ruled the federal government lacked the legal standing to bring the challenge, and threatened to withhold federal funding, which was also blocked by a judge.

National Guard soldiers and Marines were deployed to the Los Angeles area in June to aid Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents after they faced significant protests and rioting conducting detention raids.

This month, President Trump deployed National Guard troops to the streets of the capital “to rescue our nation’s capital from crime, bloodshed, bedlam, and squalor, and worse.”
