Bahrain has apparently become the first Gulf nation to launch a direct attack against Iran.

According to The New York Times, verified footage shows ballistic missiles were launched from Bahrain against Iran.

The Times writes, “A video verified by The New York Times shows ballistic missiles being launched from Bahrain in the direction of Iran, in what appears to be the first confirmed instance of an attack on the Islamic Republic originating from a Persian Gulf country since the war began.”

At least one of the launchers used was a US-made M142 HIMARS truck, which have also been used in Ukraine.

Gulf states, despite backing the US and Israeli strikes on Iran, have been hesitant to become directly involved, in fear of sustained Iranian retaliation.

Iran has already struck targets in multiple neighbouring countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, which hosts the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet.

Experts who spoke to The New York Times said it was possible the HIMARS unit seen in the launch video was operated by US personnel.
