The incident unfolded just after 8 a.m. on Nov. 14 in New Smyrna Beach.
Kelly Brisell was walking with her 11-month-old son and dog when she was confronted by a local resident who was displeased that the animal was off-leash, Fox 35 reports.
Brisell recorded part of the encounter showing Nina Jaaskelainen, 54, asking her, “Why are you on my property?”
Brisell says Jaaskelainen yelled at her and then threw coffee out of a mug that struck her son, her dog, and herself.
Jaaskelainen can be heard vowing to call police, but responding deputies ultimately arrested her after observing dried coffee on Brisell and her son.
The suspect reportedly told deputies that she meant to throw her beverage at the dog but had no intention of hitting the mother and child.
While processing Jaaskelainen, authorities determined she was in the U.S. illegally and notified Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Jaaskelainen entered a not guilty plea during a court hearing on Wednesday.
ICE has lodged a detainer against the Finn with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, indicating she could face deportation.
