All current asylum decisions have been paused by US Citizenship and Immigration Services, at the direction of President Trump. The pause comes in the wake of Wednesday’s attack on National Guard soldiers in Washington DC, which left one soldier dead and another fighting for his life. The alleged shooter is an Afghan national who was brought to the US after the withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.

CBS News reports, “The move is the administration’s latest effort to tighten the American immigration system after Wednesday’s attack, which was allegedly carried out by an Afghan man who was granted asylum by U.S. immigration officials earlier this year.

“Asylum officers at USCIS, a branch of the Department of Homeland Security, were instructed to refrain from approving, denying or closing asylum applications received by the agency, according to the internal notice and sources, who requested anonymity to describe an action that has not been publicly announced.”

On Thursday, President Trump announced the death of Sarah Bergstrom, 20, one of the two National Guard soldiers, and also said there would be a review of asylum approvals that took place under the Biden administration.

Officers at the USCIS have been told the pause applies to all USCIS asylum cases, including those filed by Afghans who arrived under the Biden admin’s resettlement program for Afghans, “Operations Allies Welcome.”

In-person meetings have also been canceled.

“USCIS has halted all asylum decisions until we can ensure that every alien is vetted and screened to the maximum degree possible,” USCIS Director Joseph Edlow told CBS.

“The safety of the American people always comes first.”

President Trump used his Thanksgiving message on social media to announce a policy of “reverse migration,” under which immigration from the Third World would be “permanently paused” and foreign nationals in the US who are “non-compatible with Western civilization” will be deported.

He complained that the “refugee burden” is the “leading cause of social dysfunction in America” and is “eating [American citizens] alive,” and vowed to “permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the U.S. system to fully recover, terminate all of the millions of Biden illegal admissions, including those signed by Sleepy Joe Biden’s Autopen, and remove anyone who is not a net asset to the United States, or is incapable of loving our Country, end all Federal benefits and subsidies to noncitizens of our Country, denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization.”

“Only REVERSE MIGRATION can fully cure this situation,” Trump added.
