The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced on Friday it thwarted a potential ISIS-inspired terrorist attack on New Year’s Eve in North Carolina, arresting 18-year-old Christian Sturdivant.

FBI Director Kash Patel wrote on 𝕏, “The FBI and partners foiled another potential New Year’s Eve attack from an individual allegedly inspired by ISIS. FBI Charlotte will be speaking at a press conference shortly with more details. Thanks to our great partners for working with us and undoubtedly saving lives.”

Law enforcement officials held a press conference detailing how they foiled the attack.

Watch the FBI press conference below:

The ISIS-inspired terror plot was one of several alleged attacks planned for New Year’s Eve with multiple members of a radical pro-Palestinian extremist group called the Turtle Island Liberation Front (TILF) being arrested by the FBI last month for plotting bombings in Los Angeles.

Last week, a U.S. government threat assessment warned terror cells may have been targeting special events in Times Square and in Chicago during the New Year celebration.

National Guard troops were also deployed to New Orleans during the holiday due to vehicle ramming threats.

Thankfully, no terror attacks took place as the nation celebrated the arrival of 2026.
