Nigel Farage has announced a mass deportation plan for his Reform party, which is currently riding high in the UK polls.
Farage, who is currently the favorite to become the UK’s next prime minister, said a Reform government would implement a policy of “detain and deport” to prevent migrants from staying in the country.
The policy, dubbed “Operation Restoring Justice,” is set to be published in full on Tuesday. It will include a plan to scrap the Human Rights Act, brought in by Prime Minister Tony Blair, and to withdraw the UK from the European Convention on Human Rights. Despite leaving the EU, Britain is still bound by the Convention and responsible to the Human Rights Court in Strasbourg, because it is technically a separate institution from the EU.
The Human Rights Act and the Convention have prevented deportations from the UK on countless occasions.
Reform’s plan would impose a statutory requirement on the Home Secretary to remove illegal immigrants.
Farage has promised that hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants would be deported, with five charter flights running each day to remove them, year-round.
Reform would also bring in emergency legislation to make it impossible for illegal immigrants to claim asylum.
As Breitbart reports, “Rather than being housed in hotels and homes, those who break into the country would instead be detained in minimalistic pre-fab centres to be constructed on surplus Royal Air Force bases. They would also be prevented from leaving the area or from claiming bail. Additionally, Reform plans to make it a criminal offence to enter the country without documents or to re-enter after deportation.”
“We have a massive crisis in Britain,” Mr Farage said.
“It is not only posing a national security threat but it’s leading to public anger that frankly is not very far away from disorder. There is only one way to stop people coming into Britain and that is to detain them and deport them.”
“I’m really sorry, but we can’t be responsible for everything that happens in the whole of the world,” he added.
“Who is our priority? Is it the safety and security of this country and its people? Or are we worrying about everybody else and foreign courts? That’s what it comes down to. Whose side are you on?”
The new plans are estimated to cost around £10 billion over a five-year period, which would be roughly the same expenditure, proportionally, as Donald Trump’s mass-deportation program.
Reform have held a strong lead in opinion polls over the last six months, putting them on course to form the next government.
