On Tuesday, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced federal charges against 43-year-old Senel Galiano Sagastume.
Sagastume was pulled over by federal agents during a targeted enforcement operation in Dallas.
“When Sagastume and his passengers refused to roll down the windows, officers breached the truck windows,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas explained in a press release.
“Sagastume then allegedly put the Silverado in drive and accelerated toward a uniformed Deputy United States Marshal, wedging him between Sagastume’s truck and a law enforcement vehicle and causing bodily injury to the Marshal.”
Photographs released by the DOJ show visible damage to the Marshal’s uniform following the incident:
Sagastume fled the scene and escaped into an apartment in the city of Richardson.
Following an hours-long standoff, the Guatemalan was taken into custody.
Sagastume has been charged by federal complaint with forcibly assaulting a federal officer and inflicting bodily injury and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
He was scheduled to make an initial appearance in court on Mar. 25 and remains in federal custody at this time.
Illegal aliens and radical leftists have become increasingly violent in their resistance to immigration law enforcement.
