DHS sources told NewsNation’s Ali Bradley that Border Patrol units under the command of Gregory Bovino will change their focus to a narrower range of targets.
Rather than conducting large-scale “sweeps,” they will focus on specific groups, like illegals who have been convicted of serious crimes.
Agents will also focus on traffic-stop enforcement.
According to The Hill, “The change in tactics comes amid a stretch of negative polling for President Trump over his immigration crackdown — a key part of his 2024 campaign platform and agenda during his second term. A survey released earlier this week by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) found that approval of Trump’s handling of immigration had dropped from 42 percent to 33 percent since March.
“In November, a YouGov poll revealed that a majority of Americans specifically disapproved of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations launched as part of the administration’s mass deportation efforts. About half of immigrants surveyed by the health policy research group KFF and The New York Times last month said they and their family members ‘feel less safe’ with Trump back in the White House.”
Yesterday, Infowars reported that Over 2.5 million illegal immigrants have been deported from the US since January.
The DHS hailed the “record-breaking achievement” in a statement.
The figure includes more than 605,000 illegals deported as part of DHS operations and 1.9 million illegals who have voluntarily self-deported.
DHS has encouraged illegals to self-deport using the CBP Home app, which allows them to notify the federal government of their intention to leave the US. Self-deporters receive $1000 and a flight home.
“Since January 20, DHS has arrested more than 595,000 illegal aliens,” DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin said.
“Illegal aliens are hearing our message to leave now. They know if they don’t, we will find them, we will arrest them, and they will never return.”
The DHS said the decline in the illegal population is already showing benefits for American workers. Over 440,000 jobs were added to the US economy in September and October.
At the same time as deporting illegals already in the US, the Trump administration has focused on securing the nation’s borders and preventing illegals from entering the country in the first place.
Customs and Border Patrol’s (CBP) total encounters with illegal immigrants nationwide have reached a record low.
Since Trump took office, nationwide apprehensions have averaged less than 10,000 per month, which is a “level of deterrence unmatched in modern border history,” CBP said.
“For the seventh consecutive month, U.S. Border Patrol released zero illegal aliens into the United States. Every individual apprehended was processed according to law—a milestone unmatched in modern border history.”
