HBO host Bill Maher slammed his fellow leftists who have been mocking and celebrating the public execution of conservative icon Charlie Kirk before criticizing liberal media for ignoring the tragic murder of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska.
Maher also defended free speech in America, citing the current draconian state of Britain as a warning to be heeded.
Noting that he had hosted Kirk on his “Club Random” podcast, Maher pointed out the Turning Point USA founder was killed while sitting under a banner reading, “Prove me wrong.”
“Too many people think the way to do that, to prove you wrong, is to just eliminate you from talking altogether,” Maher said, adding that the people who “mocked” or “justified” Kirk’s death are “gross.”
Regarding another recent “horrible” act of violence, Maher mentioned the sickening murder of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska and the Democrats’ obsession with letting repeat offender criminals loose.
“Democrats are going to lose another election if they don’t get it. You can say, ‘Homeless and crazy…’ This guy who did it had been arrested 14 times. I mean, this recidivism, this is Trump’s next low-hanging fruit,” the HBO host and comedian said.
He added, “When you look at some of the stats of people, like in Washington D.C., they say 500 people are responsible for 70% of the gun violence. What is the point of arresting people if they go right back on the street? What is the point of mass transit if nobody feels safe on it?”
Maher later promoted free speech in America and roasted the UK for arresting citizens who offend people, referencing the recent apprehension of Irish sitcom writer Graham Linehan.
Linehan was detained when he landed at London’s Heathrow Airport because he made controversial social media posts mocking the transgender movement.
Highlighting how pathetic Britain has become, Maher said Saudi Arabia is set to host a major comedy festival featuring top comics such as Dave Chappelle.
“If you told me several years ago that Saudi Arabia would be cool to have Dave Chappelle speak, and England might arrest him, I would have said, ‘What are you smoking?'”
During another show segment, Maher told his audience that leftists who recently shouted at President Trump during a dinner outing and called him “Hitler” made it easier for people to justify things like assassinations.
