The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) deceptively edited footage of President Donald Trump’s January 6 speech to make it appear as though he called on mobs to attack the US Capitol, an internal memo obtained by The Telegraph revealed.
The misleading video appeared in the network’s hour-long Panorama program episode titled, “Trump: A Second Chance?” broadcast in 2024 – a week before the US election – and was revealed in a 19-page memo by a former member of the network’s standards committee.
The memo accused the network of splicing together clips to make Trump “‘say’ things [he] never actually said,” and noted network higher-ups ignored the committee’s concerns over the footage.
According to The Telegraph, the Panorama video showed “the president telling supporters he was going to walk to the Capitol with them to ‘fight like hell’, when in fact he said he would walk with them ‘to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.'”
The Telegraph roasted the BBC in a detailed breakdown posted to social media, showing how different video clips from an hour apart were put side-by-side to create a false narrative.
The president’s son Donald Trump Jr. took the BBC to task, writing, “The FAKE NEWS ‘reporters’ in the UK are just as dishonest and full of shit as the ones here in America!!!!”
The BBC has come under fire from UK members of parliament saying the network has “serious questions to answer.”
A spokesperson for the BBC commented they’re looking into the matter, stating, “While we don’t comment on leaked documents, when the BBC receives feedback it takes it seriously and considers it carefully.”
