Image Credit: cbs news screenshot CBS News aired a segment during 60 Minutes over the weekend that focused on President Donald Trump’s claims that more than one thousand white South African farmers have been brutally murdered in racial attacks over the past few years.
The investigation was shelved for a period of time, but CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss decided to run the segment just days after the network’s correspondent Anderson Cooper resigned, ending his 20-year stint with CBS.
The official 60 Minutes 𝕏 account wrote, “In May, Pres. Trump said ‘over a thousand’ White farmers have been murdered in South Africa. He showed a video of what he said were crosses marking their burial sites. But when 60 Minutes traveled to the site, the crosses were gone. Anderson Cooper tracked down the farmer who placed them there.”
The farmer, Daryl Brown, told Cooper about his 82-year-old father being attacked by robbers and his friends who lived on a nearby farm being murdered.
Narrating the report, Cooper explained that President Trump hosted South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the White House last year where he played a video showing over a thousand white crosses lining both sides of a road, with each cross representing a murdered white South African farmer.

When Brown was asked about the crosses, which were located near his farm, he said they were not a burial site but instead were “planted there to honor commercial farmers in South Africa that had lost their lives.”
In fact, Brown put up the crosses several years ago during the funeral of his friends who were killed and placed them back on the road when his best friend was murdered on his farm by robbers in 2024.
“The Charlie Kirk Show” producer Blake Neff commented on the segment online, writing, “This video is incredible. 60 Minutes goes to South Africa, clearly looking to debunk narratives about white farmers being targeted and killed with impunity, talk to farmers who have countless stories of their family and friends being tortured and killed with no arrests. Would this story even have aired before the Weiss era?”
