Image Credit: picture alliance / Contributor / Getty Ukraine’s Dictator Vladimir Zelensky continued his European tour on Friday, racking up massive funding to wage his war into 2026. While Zelensky has referenced the peace plan progress put forth by the Americas, the Dictator continues to refuse to sign on to it. 90 billion Euros was gifted to Ukraine by EU leaders in the form of an interest free loan.
For us today, the decision by EU leaders to provide an interest-free loan of €90 billion to Ukraine is an important victory.
Without these funds, it would be very difficult for us. In any case, this is tied to Russian reparations. And these are important steps. The fact that European leaders have found such a format, and that our team has worked together with Europe to reach a positive decision.
For us, this is a reinforcement. It is a signal to the Russians that there is no point for them to continue the war because we have financial support, and therefore, we will not collapse on the front line. We will support our army and our people. Our budget is supported by €45 billion in 2026, precisely from these funds. There are no positive outcomes in war, but today, this is an important positive signal for our society and a harsh signal regarding the enemy.
According to European Council chief António Costa, this money will be paid back when Russia decides to pay reparations for the Ukraine war, something which is comically unlikely.
Note that frozen Russian assets held by Western nations are not being tapped for Friday’s loan.
“A bid to use €210bn in Russian cash frozen in the EU, mainly in Belgium, ultimately failed as leaders could not convince Belgium’s prime minister his country would be protected from Russian retaliation,” the BBC said. “The bulk of the cash is held by Brussels-based Euroclear and interest from the frozen assets is already being paid to Ukraine. Russia has already launched legal action against the clearing house.”
I am grateful to all leaders of the European Union for the European Council’s decision on €90 billion in financial support for Ukraine in 2026–2027. This is significant support that truly strengthens our resilience. It is important that Russian assets remain immobilized and that Ukraine has received a financial security guarantee for the coming years. Thank you for the result and for unity. Together, we are defending the future of our continent.
Norway also gave Ukraine billions, Zelensky referenced the amount in U.S. dollars
Today, the @Stortinget approved $8.2 billion in assistance to Ukraine for 2026. I thank Prime Minister @jonasgahrstore, the Storting, and all of Norway for this.
We are grateful to Norway for its long-term military and civilian support, which demonstrates true leadership, commitment, and strategic reliability.
Such contributions strengthen Ukraine’s ability to withstand Russian aggression and serve as a clear signal to Putin’s regime: Ukraine will continue to receive support from its allies and will be able to stop Russia and restore a lasting peace.
Each such act of support is a nail in the coffin of Russia’s plans to drown Europe in fear and inaction.
Zelensky risks being cut off from U.S. funds if he fails to sign a peace plan by Christmas, although the original deadline for this was Thanksgiving until President Donald Trump failed to follow through and extended the deadline.
On Thursday the Dictator said that Trump may die soon despite the U.S. Congress approving millions of dollars in Ukraine aid money the day prior. The Atlantic Council detailed this U.S. funding of Ukraine for 2026:
On December 17, the Senate voted to send the annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to US President Donald Trump’s desk for his signature. The bill includes provisions to authorize new military assistance for Ukraine, provide stronger oversight of the Trump administration’s arms sales and intelligence support for Kyiv, and support for efforts to return abducted Ukrainian children from Russia.
In a sharp decrease from the past level of military assistance for Ukraine, the NDAA includes $400 million in funding for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) for new arms intended for Ukraine for 2026 and 2027. To put this into context, the April 2024 Ukraine supplemental aid bill included nearly $14 billion in USAI funding.
Even so, the bill is a significant step given that Washington has ended almost all direct assistance to Ukraine. The Trump administration still holds billions in authority for USAI but hasn’t made use of the program, instead opting to sell arms to Ukraine via European allies.
