President Donald Trump has held a press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska as part of his “Pursuing Peace” summit. No deal was agreed to between the heads of state.
“[I have] every reason to believe that moving down this path we can come, and the sooner the better, to the end of the conflict in Ukraine,” Putin said.
Trump said he had an extremely productive meeting with Putin where many points were agreed to but some significant points have yet to be agreed to.
“Our relations had sunk to the lowest point since the Cold War,” Putin said, referencing the degradation of geopolitical relations with the West during the Biden era.
Prior to the press conference the two national leaders and their top advisors met behind closed doors for nearly three hours.
The press conference was brief and no specific details were discussed.

Trump said he will contact European leaders and Vladimir Zelensky to update them on the day’s developments.
“Russia is genuinely interested in ending the Ukraine conflict and ensuring that the resolution in Ukraine is long-term,” Putin said, adding that Moscow hopes that European nations will not hinder or disrupt the anticipated progress.
Neither president took questions from media following their joint press conference.

Notably, Trump said on Thursday that the summit has a 25 percent chance of being a failure.
Prior to the summit Friday morning Trump said that there’s nothing set in stone ahead of the meeting, but that he hopes to see a rapid ceasefire and that he would not be happy if a ceasefire was not agreed to.
“I want the killing to stop, I’m in this to stop the killing,” the President said hours before meeting with Putin.
