Authorities announced several arrests after hundreds of ‘youths’ riding a variety of dirt bikes, scooters, and e-bikes converged on the streets of Tampa, Florida.
The Tampa Police Department (TPD) published aerial footage of the chaotic incident, which unfolded on Aug. 13 in Cigar City.
More than 200 “reckless riders” tried to overtake roads and sidewalks, popping wheelies, speeding through intersections, and creating extremely dangerous conditions on busy thoroughfares.
Around 7:24 PM on Aug 13, 200+ reckless riders tried to take over our streets. Our eyes in the sky & boots on the ground worked together to track them down. You can try to run and hide. But we’ll be right behind & above – making sure our roadways are safe for everyone. pic.twitter.com/ctX3cufM8a

“Our eyes in the sky & boots on the ground worked together to track them down,” TPD stated.
“You can try to run and hide. But we’ll be right behind & above – making sure our roadways are safe for everyone.”
One suspect on a two-wheeler rode against traffic before attempting to hide off-road in a wooded area.
Four people were arrested and seven citations were issued while others managed to escape, Fox 13 reports.
“We definitely felt that there was an extreme danger at that point, and we needed to address it,” said TPD Major Les Richardson. “If we are talking about 200 people that just ended up saying, ‘let’s go on a bike ride’ and that bike ride turned reckless, it’s a little bit harder to determine if it was meant to be that way or if it just turned into that.”
“Not everyone was trying to cause havoc, some were just riding with the pack, and pulled over when we arrived. Their actions dictated their charges.”
Richardson says the riders ranged in age from 16 to 29 years old.
TPD is still working to identifying other potential suspects.
