Florida gubernatorial candidate James Fishback has proposed levying hefty taxes on remittances and seizing bank accounts of illegal aliens in an effort to drive them out of the country.
Speaking to BorderHawk.news at an event in Cape Coral on Thursday, Fishback floated several policies designed to incentivize self-deportations.
“If you came into the country under Joe Biden, you have no ID, you’re taking money and food stamps, taking a job that could go to a hard-working Floridian, you have to be remigrated back to your home. It doesn’t have to be done in an ugly way, it has to be done in a smart way,” the Republican hopeful stated.
“I would tax remittances at 50 percent. If all of a sudden all these illegals who are sending money back home have to now pay 50 percent to send their money back home, you know what they might do? They might go back home.”
Fishback said he would also confiscate funds of criminal illegals and only return their money after they leave the U.S.
“We don’t have to the whole pomp and circumstance of ICE. I think there’s a time and place for that,” he asserted. “If we do it a little bit smarter, we can actually save money and save resources.”
“If we have criminal illegal aliens in our state and their bank account with $40,000 gets seized tomorrow — which we can do lawfully because they’re in the country illegally — and we say, ‘Look, you want your 40 grand? Go back to Mexico.’ I think they will take that deal.”
