Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth took a battle axe to legacy media reporters during a press conference Thursday, slamming them for attempting to malign President Donald Trump despite recent strikes taking out Iranian nuclear facilities.
“Before I pass it to the chairman, because you and I mean specifically you, and I mean specifically you, the press, specifically you, the press corps, because you cheer against Trump so hard, it’s like in your DNA and in your blood, to cheer against Trump, because you want him not to be successful so bad, you have to cheer against the efficacy of these strikes,” Hegseth said.
Hegseth went on to blast the media’s claims as being spun from a “half-truth” information leak.
“So let’s take half-truths, spun information, leaked information, and then spin it, spin it in every way we can to try to cause doubt and manipulate the mind, the public mind over whether or not our brave pilots were successful.”
He continued, “There are so many aspects of what our brave men and women did that, because of the hatred of this press corps, are undermined because your people are trying to leak and spin that it wasn’t successful. It’s irresponsible.”
“And folks in this room are privy to that information because of the proximity here in the Pentagon. It’s an important responsibility and time to time again, classified information is leaked or peddled for political purposes to try to make the president look bad and what’s really happening is you’re undermining the success of incredible B-2 pilots and incredible F-35 pilots and incredible refuelers and incredible air defenders who accomplished their mission, set back a nuclear program in ways that other presidents would have dreamed. How about we celebrate that?”
Elsewhere during the presser, Hegseth dismissed a woke liberal reporter who questioned his comment commending “our boys on those bombers,â since the B-2 bomber fleet contained at least one female pilot.
âOf course, the chairman mentioned a female bomber pilot. Thatâs fantastic. Sheâs fantastic. Sheâs a hero,â Hegseth said. âI want more female bomber pilots. I hope the men and women of our country sign up to do such brave and audacious things.â
“âOur boys in bombersâ is a common phrase,” Hegseth went on. âIâll keep saying things like that whether theyâre men or women…Iâm very proud of that female pilot, just like Iâm very proud of those male pilots. I donât care if itâs a male or a female in that cockpit, and the American people donât care. But itâs the obsession with race and gender â in this department thatâs changed priorities, and we donât do that anymore. We donât play your little games.â
Later, Hegseth singled out former Fox News colleague Jennifer Griffin, saying she’d been “about the worst” in the media parroting disinformation about the strike after she questioned whether nuclear material could have been moved off-site prior to the bombings.
When the press conference was over, President Donald Trump weighed in on Truth Social, saying, “One of the greatest, most professional, and most ‘confirming’ News Conferences I have ever seen! The Fake News should fire everyone involved in this Witch Hunt, and apologize to our great warriors, and everyone else!“
The press conference comes as CNN somehow obtained a “top secret” preliminary DOD assessment claiming the “core components of Iran’s nuclear program are still largely intact.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt countered the allegations in a statement Wednesday, writing, “This alleged assessment is flat-out wrong and was classified as ‘top secret’ but was still leaked to CNN by an anonymous, low-level loser in the intelligence community. The leaking of this alleged assessment is a clear attempt to demean President Trump, and discredit the brave fighter pilots who conducted a perfectly executed mission to obliterate Iran’s nuclear program. Everyone knows what happens when you drop fourteen 30,000 pound bombs perfectly on their targets: total obliteration.”
Israel and Iran have also both agreed the nuclear sites were “badly damaged.”
