Image Credit: Palm Beach Gardens Police A homeless man is facing murder charges for allegedly stabbing a 65-year-old woman to death at a bookstore in Florida this week, according to reports.
The horrifying ambush unfolded at around 8 p.m. on Monday evening in Palm Beach Gardens.
Rita Loncharich was shopping for Christmas presents at Barnes & Noble when she was attacked by a man who reportedly plunged a knife into her back.
Loncharich managed to call her husband and tell him she had been stabbed but she later succumbed to her injuries while undergoing surgery at a local hospital.
Palm Beach Gardens police located the suspect hiding in a wooded area near the store and took him into custody.
He was identified as Antonio Moore, a 40-year-old homeless man who told officers he arrived to Florida on a bus from Georgia earlier this month.
Moore was reportedly charging his phone inside the store at the time of the attack.
The suspect “stated there was an ‘internal buildup’ that triggered a ‘fight or flight response,’ and that Loncharich was the closest person to him at the time,” WPTV reports, citing an arrest affidavit.
Moore was charged with first-degree premeditated murder and is scheduled to make an initial court appearance on Wednesday.
