Image Credit: Andrew Harnik / Staff / Getty Images Russia has condemned the joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran as an “unprovoked act of armed aggression against a sovereign and independent UN member state.”
In a statement posted to Telegram, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said the US and Israel were “hiding behind” concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions in order to pursue regime change.
The Russians warned the attacks could trigger a “humanitarian, economic and possibly radiological catastrophe” in the Middle East, and said the US and Israel are “plunging the Middle East into an abyss of uncontrolled escalation.”
Bombing nuclear facilities is “unacceptable,” the Russians added, and said they would help to broker a peaceful end to the hostilities; although they maintain the US and Israel are responsible for escalation, and not the Iranians.
Among the early targets of the strikes appear to be facilities linked to the Iranian regime, including the residence of Ayatollah Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader.
Five cities have been targeted so far: Tehran, Karaj, Kermanshah, Qom and Isfahan.
President Trump addressed the nation in an eight-minute speech and said the Iranian regime must be held accountable for its historical attacks on the US and its allies, and for its refusal to abandon its ambition to acquire nuclear weapons.
He said the US will now destroy Iran’s missile capabilities, its navy and its “terrorist proxies” in the region.
He also called on the Iranian people to “take over your government” once the military operation is finished.
US military bases and allies in the Middle East are now under attack in retaliation for US and Israeli strikes against Iran.
Footage posted to social media shows smoke rising from a US base in Bahrain used as the headquarters for the 5th Fleet.
Attacks are also reported to have taken place in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Sirens are also being activated in Kuwait, with reports that two Iranian missiles have been intercepted.
Northern Israel also appears to have been targeted by the Iranians.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard confirmed the attack on Israel, saying it had launched a “first wave” of drones and missiles. This is a developing story and Infowars will provide updates as and when they are available.
