There are two million more native-born Americans in the workforce than last year, new statistics reveal.
The latest jobs report, which showed lower-than-expected growth of 73,000 jobs in July, nevertheless revealed that millions more Americans are now in work since the same time last year, and nearly a quarter of a million foreign-born adults have left the workforce.
The report showed that there were 133,035,000 Americans in work, up from 131,037,000 in July 2024. Among foreign-born individuals, employment declined to 30,764,000 in July from 31,001,000 a year ago.
The change was hailed by Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer, who said it shows “American workers are being put first.
“We’ve seen positive job growth. We have seen consumer confidence go up. We’ve seen unemployment hold steady,” Chavez-DeRemer said on Friday in an interview with Fox Business.
“While we could have seen better jobs numbers, right now we’re seeing American workers are being put first — native-born workers account for all of the job growth and that’s key.”
President Trump’s response to the jobs report was less sanguine. He fired Bureau of Labor Statistics commissioner Erika McEntarfer, accusing her of politicizing jobs reports and fudging the data.
He also called for Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell to resign after he refused, for the fifth consecutive time, to lower interest rates.
“Jerome ‘Too Late’ Powell, a stubborn MORON, must substantially lower interest rates, NOW,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
“IF HE CONTINUES TO REFUSE, THE BOARD SHOULD ASSUME CONTROL, AND DO WHAT EVERYONE KNOWS HAS TO BE DONE!”
