Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) issued a series of 𝕏 posts on Sunday, complaining about President Trump attempting to send Texas National Guard members to his state and Oregon.

“This evening, President Trump is ordering 400 members of the Texas National Guard for deployments to Illinois, Oregon, and other locations within the United States. No officials from the federal government called me directly to discuss or coordinate,” he wrote.

Pritzker labeled the move “Trump’s invasion,” and called on Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) to “withdraw any support” and “refuse to coordinate” with the federal government.

The governor then accused Trump of using National Guard troops “as political props,” urging Americans to “speak up and help stop this madness.”

California’s Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom, who is joining Oregon Governor Tina Kotek (D) in suing President Trump for sending California National Guard Troops to Portland, responded to Pritzker’s social media tirade.

“This is a breathtaking abuse of the law and power by the President of the United States. America is on the brink of martial law. Do not be silent,” Newsom wrote.

Congressman Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) wrote, “We do not deploy American forces against Americans in our own cities. Our military is not trained for domestic law enforcement. It’s illegal and un-American.”

Governor Abbott also chimed in, responding that he “fully authorized” the deployment of Texas National Guard troops to ensure the safety of federal officials engaged in deportation efforts in Oregon and Illinois.

“You can either fully enforce protection for federal employees or get out of the way and let Texas Guard do it,” he stated. “No Guard can match the training, skill, and expertise of the Texas National Guard. They defend our country with pride. America must also know that Texas still has thousands of National Guard assisting with the Border security.”

Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe (R) has also authorized the state’s National Guard troops to protect and support Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) law enforcement operations in his state.

On Sunday night, a federal judge who previously blocked California National Guard from entering Oregon issued a second order preventing the Texas guard from being deployed.

Judge Karin Immergut of U.S. District Court in Oregon “broadened her restraining order to cover ‘the relocation, federalization or deployment of members of the National Guard of any state or the District of Columbia in the state of Oregon,’ telling Justice Department lawyers that the president was ‘in direct contravention’ of her order,” according to the New York Times.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller wrote, “An Oregon judge ruled that the Commander-in-Chief cannot station federal troops in her state to defend the lives of federal officers.”

What is the federal government supposed to do when cities and states refuse to uphold the law or protect federal agents doing their jobs?
