A federal immigration officer was seriously injured when she was attacked by a Tren de Aragua (TdA) gang member in Nebraska this week, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
The disturbing incident unfolded on June 18 in Bellevue, a city in Sarpy County.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), working alongside partner agencies, tracked down Gabriel Hurtado-Cariaco, a known TdA terrorist and citizen of Venezuela in the suburbs of Omaha.
During his arrest, Hurtado-Cariaco “threw the ICE agent to the ground, slammed her head into the pavement, ripped off her body armor, and made repeated and physical violent contact,” DHS explained in a press release.
The Venezuelan also assaulted an FBI agent and then fled the scene but was apprehended roughly an hour later.
Hurtado-Cariaco has been charged with attempted murder of a federal officer and assault of a federal officer with infliction of bodily injury and will be “prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” according to DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
“Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident. Our ICE agents are facing a 500% increase surge in assaults against them. Our brave law enforcement puts their lives on the line every day to arrest terrorists, gang members, and other violent criminals that the previous administration released into American communities.”
Hurtado-Cariaco illegally entered the U.S. at an unspecified location in 2023 but was removed by U.S. Border Patrol.
He then re-entered in 2024 and was released into the interior with a notice to appear before a federal immigration judge in the future.
“A terrorist with a previous deportation was voluntarily freed and released into the US by the Biden Administration. He now stands accused of viciously assaulting and nearly murdering a female ICE agent. What the Democrats did to this country is a crime against humanity,” stated DHS Advisor Stephen Miller.
The ICE agent was treated for serious injuries to her head and arm and is now recovering at home.
