Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton launched a lawsuit on Wednesday, targeting the Beto O’Rourke political action committee Powered by People for funding the “runaway Democrats” who left the Lone Star State last weekend to avoid a vote for new voting districts.
“Any Democrat coward breaking the law by taking a Beto Bribe will be held accountable,” he wrote on social media.
Paxton added, “Texas cannot be bought. I look forward to thoroughly reviewing all of the documents and communications obtained throughout this investigation. These jet-setting runaways have already lost public trust by abandoning our state, and Texans deserve to know if they received illegal bribes to do it.”
A statement by the AG’s office noted, “According to public reports, Powered by People has been one of the top groups bankrolling the Texas House Democrat members who abandoned Texans and vacated their offices. By providing these liberal lawmakers with the funds to flee the state, Powered by People may have violated bribery laws. Powered by People and the runaway Democrats may have also violated other Texas laws, including, but not limited to, those governing campaign or officeholder contributions and expenditures, coercion of a public servant, and abuse of office.”
O’Rourke responded, “The guy impeached for bribery is going after the folks trying to stop the theft of five Congressional seats,” using the publicity to suggest more people donate to Powered by People. “Let’s stop these thugs before they steal our country.”
Speaker of the Texas House Dustin Burrows gave the Democrat politicians until Friday to come back to the state and take part in the vote, and several state officials such as Governor Greg Abbott (R) and Senator John Cornyn (R) have called for their arrest.
Texas’ decision to redistrict ahead of the typical decade-long timetable has resulted in blue states such as California, New York and Illinois considering doing the same.
The redistricting battle comes a year out from the 2026 midterm elections and may have ramifications that stretch to the 2028 presidential election.
Former Obama Attorney General Eric Holder told MSNBC on Monday night that the House could refuse to certify the 2028 presidential election results over the Texas district realignment.
Hypocrite Democrats are losing their minds despite Texas going through the state legislature to legally pass the new districts while blue state gerrymandering has left millions of Republican voters without representation in Congress.
Blue state “sanctuary cities” also inflated census numbers with illegal aliens, giving the Democrat-run areas dozens of fraudulent House seats in 2020.
This whole spat is really about the 2028 presidential election as the leaderless left resorts to shady tactics to try and achieve victory over the populist MAGA movement.
