A 30-year-old French-Arab man from Marseille, Yamine H., is on trial for at least 10 extremely brutal home-invasion robberies, including one where he beat a 90-year-old woman and locked her in a closet.
The man is believed to have preyed on elderly people, a common them Remix News has reported on in relation to France’s foreign population.
The man was active for several months in Var and Bouches-du-Rhône, according to prosecutors.
The man is described as “dangerous” by prosecutors
French newspaper Le Figaro reports that the man was arrested on Aug. 19 just a few hours after committing a robbery against a woman aged 90. According to a police source, the woman born in 1935 was violently attacked, locked in a closet and had her jewelry stolen. Inside the closet, she was given two bottles of water before the suspect simply left her there with no presumable way of getting out.
However, the elderly woman managed to escape by breaking the lock on the door, and then called the police They used video surveillance to trace the crime back to Yamine H., who refused to talk to police. However, house searches conducted in his home led to the police recovering loot from a variety of robberies, including jewelry and a safe.
Prosecutors say the man is a serial burglar connected to at least 10 different home invasions that have been ongoing in southeast France in recent months.
In a number of cases, he violently invaded the homes. Police are also searching for potential accomplices.
The elderly are often targets in France
Earlier this year, two siblings in their 80s, one 82 and the other 84, were violently beaten by a man who was attempting to rob them of jewelry and money. During the robbery, he told them he was robbing them out of revenge for what France did to Africa.
Last year, an African “serial attacker” beat and robbed 17 elderly women, including some over the age of 90. Also, last year, another African migrant beat and robbed 10 elderly women in Paris, including breaking an elderly doctor’s vertebrae, which kept her from treating patients for two months.
In 2023, Walid E. robbed and raped a 96-year-old woman inside her apartment in Clichy-la-Garenne (Hauts-de-Seine).
