During an event this week raising funds for families affected by deadly flooding in July, Texas’ Republican Governor Greg Abbott confirmed he’ll be running for a fourth term in 2026.

Abbott’s announcement puts to rest rumors that he was considering a presidential run in the 2028 election following President Trump’s departure from the White House.

“Well, first of all, I’m thinking about helping these people here in the Kerrville area, helping my fellow Texans. But also, yes, I will be running again for governor in 2026,” Abbott told News 4 San Antonio.

Touting victories from his current term in office over the weekend, Abbott boasted that Texas is “thriving” as “Democrat-run states are flailing.”

Texas added more than 232,000 jobs over the past year, which is more than any other state in the country.

Abbott also posted to 𝕏 on Sunday, revealing Texas has opened up “the largest ICE detention center in U.S. history,” called the “Lone Star Lockup.”

With Abbott hoping to remain in Texas to stop the state from falling victim to Democrat policies, the 2028 GOP presidential field misses out on a strong candidate.
