The Trump administration is reportedly considering restricting American IT firms from outsourcing work to India, according to social media posts.

“This change could devastate the Indian IT sector & cost India millions of jobs,” noted popular X account @WallStreetMav.

Trump Senior Counsellor for Trade and Manufacturing Peter Navarro earlier this week retweeted an X post from Jack Posobiec, saying, “Tariff the foreign remote workers All outsourcing should be tariffed,” suggesting he agrees with the proposal.

India’s Economic Times took heed of Navarro’s post, noting such a policy could be disastrous for India.

Any move to curb this flow of remote services could deal a heavy blow to India’s $250+ billion IT services industry, not just through direct restrictions, but by chilling future contracts, increasing compliance costs or disincentivising companies from setting up offshore teams.
