Russian President Vladimir Putin said Donald Trump was deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize for his successful efforts bringing an end to several global conflicts, while this year’s winner dedicated the prize to the US president.
Putin made the remarks Friday at a summit in Tajikstan when asked if he believed Trump was snubbed by the Nobel Committee after the prize went to Venezuelan leader Maria Corina Machado, to which he replied, “This award lost credibility. The committee discussed the prize for people who have done nothing for the world.”

“He’s really doing a lot to resolve such complex crises that have lasted for years and even decades,” Putin said of Trump while in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, for a summit of former Soviet nations. He added that if the Gaza ceasefire deal is carried out, it would mark a “historic” achievement.
The Russian leader didn’t comment on Machado’s win, but he said without mentioning any names that the Nobel Committee in the past has awarded the prize to those who have accomplished little to help global peace.
“There have been cases where the committee has awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to people who have done nothing for peace,” Putin said. “A person comes, good or bad, and (gets it) in a month, in two months, boom. For what? He didn’t do anything at all. In my view, these decisions have done enormous damage to the prestige of this prize.”
Trump shared video of Putin’s praise on Truth Social Friday, writing, “Thank you to President Putin!”

In a phone call with the Nobel Committee, Corina Machado – the winner of the prize “for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy” in Venezuela – said, “I certainly do not deserve it,” crediting her movement as a whole.
Posting to X after being awarded the prize, Corina Machado noted President Trump supported her cause and dedicated the award to him.

Trump posted a screenshot of Corina Machado’s X post to Truth Social with no comment.
The Nobel Committee’s snub of Trump is particularly glaring this year, as within the first year of his second term the US president has managed to broker peace in numerous conflicts around the globe, including hosting a peace summit between Azerbaijan and Armenia, forging a peace deal between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and resolving a dispute between India and Pakistan, the latter of which nominated Trump for the 2026 prize.

The US President also appears to be on the brink of striking a peace deal between Israel and Hamas, which would bring an end to the destruction of Gaza and the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.
To Putin’s point, the prize’s reputation has long been tainted, with recipients such as warmonger Henry Kissinger, climate alarmist Al Gore, and drone bomber Barack Obama among its more questionable honorees.
The world eagerly awaits President Trump’s response to the Committee’s snub.
