Three men, two from Palestine and one from Lebanon, have been arrested for kidnapping a Syrian man off the streets of Stuttgart in Germany. In a joint operation between Polish and German police, the three men were arrested on Polish territory after a three-day manhunt.
The suspects are accused of beating the 25-year-old victim, dragging him to a car, and fleeing the scene in Stuttgart on July 6 at 12:45 p.m. in the Bad Cannstatt district.
Shortly after the incident, a friend of the victim reported him missing.
“The kidnappers demanded a ransom of several hundred thousand euros from the victim’s family. They threatened to inflict serious injuries and kill the 25-year-old,” said Daniela Treude, a police spokesperson.
Stuttgart police determined that the perpetrators were following the Syrian before they kidnapped him and brought him to Poland.
“In a police operation lasting approximately 75 hours under the direction of the Stuttgart Police Headquarters, officers from a Polish special unit arrested three men, aged 24, 28, and 39, on Wednesday evening, July 9, 2025, on suspicion of involvement in the kidnapping of a 25-year-old,” wrote the police in a press release.
“The background to the kidnapping is still unclear. According to initial findings, the perpetrator and victim knew each other,” said police spokeswoman Treude.
German police operations manager Carsten Höfler praised Polish police forces.
“We dovetailed all our forces in a special operation lasting several days. This is how we were able to save a human life,” he said.
“The violence caused by the most serious crime of kidnapping is unbearable for the victim and undermines trust in our security. I am all the more pleased that we were able to interlink all of our forces in a goal-oriented manner at the European level in a special operation lasting several days in order to successfully save a human life. We are keeping pace in the fight against serious crime and doing so successfully across borders,” added Höfler.
The victim was recovered without injuries.
