An illegal alien has been charged with murdering his own wife and mother of their children in Oklahoma.
An investigation was launched after 33-year-old Karla Gramajo-Cabrera was reported missing by her sister to Tulsa authorities earlier this month.
Detectives began surveilling Gramajo-Cabrera’s husband, Willie Ricardo Merida‑Escobar, 40, after learning he had a history of domestic violence and suspicious behavior, KTUL reports.
Merida‑Escobar was taken into custody on Apr. 10 and reportedly confessed to strangling his wife at their residence two days earlier during a dispute in which she “insulted him.”
He reportedly told authorities he loaded her body into a vehicle and drove around looking for somewhere to dispose of it but claimed he couldn’t remember exactly where.
Gramajo-Cabrera’s body was eventually found under a mattress near Cherokee Expressway on the north side of Tulsa.
Merida‑Escobar was charged with first-degree murder and is being held on $1,000,000 bond.
Additionally, Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged a detainer against Merida‑Escobar, who has been identified as an illegal alien from Guatemala.
“This sick illegal alien MURDERED his wife and then dumped her body. He should NOT have been in our country, but entered illegally under the Obama administration,” the Department of Homeland Security stated on Friday.
“We will continue working with our partners in Tulsa to ensure this monster is NEVER released back into our streets.”
