Images out of Western Australia showed the sky glowing bright red, as winds from a tropical cyclone moving in kicked up dust causing the bizarre aerial phenomenon.

Footage was posted to Facebook by Shark Bay Caravan Park workers in Denham, WA, who called the weather event “incredibly eerie.”
“Incredibly eerie outside and everything is covered in dust. Not a lot of wind yet. Let’s hope we get enough rain to wash it all off. It’s an inside day for us that’s for sure,” the park captioned the post.
The region’s red, iron-rich soil acted like a filter, blotting out the sun and possibly blocking certain light wavelengths, according to Fox Weather.
Colors like blue have shorter wavelengths, whereas red, orange and pink light have longer wavelengths.
When the sun is near the horizon at sunrise or sunset, its light passes through a greater thickness of the atmosphere.
During this journey, the shorter blue wavelengths scatter more, letting the longer red and pink wavelengths stand out and dominate the sky’s appearance.
The incredible atmospheric event comes as Tropical Cyclone Narelle has been slamming Australia’s western coast, as it headed south after whipping around the continent’s northern region while making landfall four times.
