White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the number during Tuesday’s press briefing, telling reporters the boost in returns are largely due to tax cut provisions in President Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill.
“So, just to provide an update from the Treasury Department that just went out moments ago, nearly 63 and a half million tax returns have been processed thus far,” Leavitt said adding, “So, don’t forget to file your taxes, people – and the average refund this year is more than $3,700.”
Newsweek reports: “An average refund topping $3,700 means millions of taxpayers may see a larger one‑time cash boost over last year, which can be used to pay down debt, cover everyday expenses, or rebuild savings after years of inflation pressure.”
Leavitt went on to say that 27.5 million taxpayers had taken advantage of new tax cuts, including 3.5 million claiming no tax on tips, 15.5 million claiming no tax on overtime, 9.2 million claiming no tax on social security, and over 690,000 claiming no tax on car loan interest rates financing cars made in America.
Nearly 3.5 million “Trump account” savings accounts for newborns have also been started, the press secretary also stated.
Leavitt boosted the news Thursday, reminding people that every Democrat voted against the Big Beautiful Bill.
