A male suspect was arrested for making terroristic threats after he claimed to be carrying a bomb at a federal immigration facility in Texas this week, authorities say.
The harrowing incident unfolded just after 6:30 p.m. on Monday evening in Dallas.
Bratton Dean Wilkinson, 36, arrived to the reporting entrance of Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Dallas Field Office and “claimed to have a bomb in his backpack,” the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) explained in a press release.
Wilkinson then reportedly showed a security officer a device on his wrist that he claimed was a “detonator.”
The officer called 911 and a shelter in place order was issued for the facility.
The Dallas Police Department (DPD) arrived with a bomb squad and an all-clear notice was issued at 7:19 p.m.
Wilkinson was taken into custody by DPD and charged with false reporting to induce an emergency response, a misdemeanor.
However, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas is reportedly looking into pursuing federal charges.
“On Monday evening, law enforcement arrested a suspect who made bomb threats to a Dallas ICE facility. This incident comes just two weeks after a threatening letter with a white powdery substance was sent to an ICE office in New York City. Less than a week ago, a violent rioter was charged with assault in San Francisco after he threatened to stab an ICE officer and harm his family,” said a senior DHS official.
“These incidents come after months of smears and rhetoric by activists, politicians, and the media comparing ICE law enforcement to the Nazi Gestapo, kidnappers, and the Secret Police. This shameful rhetoric has fueled a culture of hate against law enforcement resulting in a 1,000 percent increase in assaults against them. All sanctuary politicians, activists, and the media need to turn down their temperature.”
