Police in Bremen stopped an attempted assault on an Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) campaign booth in Bremen on Saturday, September 13th, after dozens of masked left-wing extremists tried to storm the stand.
Officers used batons to disperse the crowd and prevent direct clashes. According to police, up to 30 masked individuals were involved. No injuries were reported.
The Bremen branch of the AfD condemned the incident, calling it an attack on democratic freedoms.
“Once again, it becomes clear that left-wing extremist groups are not interested in democratic discourse, but rather fight dissidents with hatred and violence,” the party said in a statement. It added that the escalation reflected a “worrying development” and pointed to the recent death of Charlie Kirk as a “bitter sign of our times.”
Video footage showed masked individuals, some carrying umbrellas, rushing toward the AfD booth before being intercepted by police. After the confrontation, the group joined a nearby protest against the party, removing their disguises.
Earlier in the day, unknown perpetrators had scrawled slogans such as “Nazis out” and “AfD stinks” in spray chalk near the booth. Banners with the words “No place for right-wing hate speech, solidarity instead of fascism” were also hung under a railway bridge before being removed by police.
