A federal officer was seriously injured by a criminal illegal alien who was shot dead while evading authorities in the sanctuary city of Chicago.
On Friday morning, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) targeted a dangerous foreign suspect in the Franklin Park neighborhood as part of Operation Midway Blitz.
“ICE officers conducted a vehicle stop to arrest Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez. He refused to follow law enforcements commands and drove his car at law enforcement officers,” the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) explained in a press release.
“One of the ICE officers was hit by the car and dragged a significant distance. Fearing for his own life, the officer fired his weapon.”
Villegas-Gonzalez was pronounced dead shortly after.
A video purportedly taken at the scene appears to show a vehicle crashed into a tractor-trailer and ICE officers tending to a man on the side of the road.
The injured agent was hospitalized in stable condition.
“We are praying for the speedy recovery of our law enforcement officer. He followed his training, used appropriate force, and properly enforced the law to protect the public and law enforcement,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
“Viral social media videos and activists encouraging illegal aliens to resist law enforcement not only spread misinformation, but also undermine public safety, as well as the safety of our officers and those being apprehended.”
Villegas-Gonzalez, who had a history of reckless driving, illegally entered the U.S. at an unknown location and date.
On Monday, ICE launched Operation Midway Blitz, surging federal assets into the Windy City to track down the “worst of the worst” criminals aliens, many of whom were released back to the streets despite committing heinous crimes.
