An American schoolteacher lost her life in a vehicle collision with an illegal alien who was trying to escape from federal immigration officers in Georgia this week, authorities say.
The horrifying tragedy unfolded at around 7:30 a.m. on Monday morning in Savannah.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was conducting an operation targeting Oscar Vasquez Lopez, a criminal illegal alien from Guatemala who has been under a final order of removal since 2024.
ICE officers initially stopped a pickup truck Vasquez Lopez was driving when he suddenly sped away, ran a red light, made an illegal u-turn, and crashed into a vehicle driven by Dr. Linda Davis, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) explained in a press release.
Davis was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced decased.
Vasquez Lopez suffered only minor injuries and has been charged with vehicular homicide by the Chatham County Police Department.
The Guatemalan illegally entered the U.S. at an unknown location and date.
“I wanted to make our families aware that our school has experienced the death of a teacher, who was killed in a traffic accident this morning just outside the school. Dr. Linda Davis was a beloved member of our school family and her loss has affected us deeply,” announced Alonna McMullen, principal of the Hesse K-8 School where Davis taught.
Outgoing DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin blasted the mainstream media and officials in sanctuary jurisdictions for “constantly demonizing ICE officers and encouraging those here illegally to resist arrest—a felony.”
“These dangerous tactics are putting people’s lives at risk. Fleeing from and resisting federal law enforcement is not only a crime but extraordinarily dangerous and puts oneself, our officers, and innocent civilians at risk. Now, an innocent bystander has lost their life.”
Illegal aliens and radical leftists have become increasingly violent in their resistance to immigration law enforcement.
