Image Credit: abc news After mainstream media echoed claims by a Minneapolis family that their children were tear-gassed by federal agents after being caught in a clash between ICE and protesters, the alleged victims received nearly $200,000 in donations.
ABC News aired a video titled, “Minneapolis family says ICE agents threw tear gas, baby temporarily stopped breathing,” claiming the Jackson family was trying to get home from one of their son’s basketball games when they were tear-gassed while sitting in their car, forcing the mother to give CPR to her infant.
Once the baby was reportedly breathing again, EMS eventually arrived and provided medical assistance.
CNN ran the headline, “Minneapolis Family, Six Children Tear-Gassed After They Were Caught In Clash Between Ice And Protesters,” and People Magazine wrote, “Minneapolis Family, Including 6 Children, Tear-Gassed After They Were Caught in Clash Between ICE and Protesters,” with dozens of media outlets publishing similar stories.
The Jackson family’s GoFundMe page stated, “Hello my name is Destiny. Myself, my husband Shawn and their 6 kids were the lastest ‘ICE’ victims. They were innocent bystanders driving through what should have been a peaceful protest when things took a turn ICE began to start throwing tear gas bombs everywhere we were trying so hard to get out the way but didn’t want to harm anybody with our car in the process. One of the bombs rolled under our truck and within seconds our truck lifted up off the ground and the airbags deployed, the car doors locked themselves and the car began to fill with the powerful tear gas. We fought hard to get the doors open and get all of the kids out, bystanders had to help.”
However, video of the incident shows both Destiny and Shawn Jackson standing outside with the demonstrators, appearing to take part in the anti-ICE protest with no sign of their children.
Right Angle News Network suggested the couple left their children in the vehicle while they protested before the tear gas was thrown.
Footage from the demonstration shows Destiny Jackson wearing a hoodie reading, “Ms. Destiny,” on the back.

A screenshot from a local news report also proves Shawn Jackson was the same man filmed in the streets protesting as he’s wearing the same sweatshirt.

While the couple appeared in activist Jonathan Mason’s video of the demonstration at 8:30 p.m., the dispatch call about the baby being exposed to tear gas didn’t come in until 9:22 p.m.
