An amazing debate moment unfolded Thursday when Virginia GOP gubernatorial candidate Winsome Earle-Sears stunned Democrat nominee Abigail Spanberger into silence as she refused to rescind her support for Democrat attorney general candidate Jay Jones, after texts surfaced showing he discussed murdering the state’s Republican House Speaker.
As Earle-Sears held Spanberger’s feet to the fire on why she had not yet asked Jones – who she vehemently supported until just recently, when she called his behavior “abhorrent” – to drop out of the race, the Democrat candidate stood in silence looking forward while smirking at moderators.
“Abigail, when are you going to take Jay Jones and say to him, ‘You must leave the race?’ He has said that he wants to murder his political opponent, and not only that, but his political opponents’ children,” Earle-Sears said.
“What would it take? Him pulling the trigger? Is that what would do it?” Earle-Sears added.
Earle-Sears highlighted the spectacle on X, writing, “Abigail Spanberger’s silence says it all.”
Texts from 2022 showed Jones joking about putting “two bullets to the head” of Republican then-Speaker Todd Gilbert.
Addressing the news on Truth Social on Sunday, Trump wrote, “It has just come out that the Radical Left Lunatic, Jay Jones, who is running against Jason Miyares, the GREAT Attorney General in Virginia, made SICK and DEMENTED jokes, if they were jokes at all, which were not funny, and that he wrote down and sent around to people, concerning the murdering of a Republican Legislator, his wife, and their children.”
Asked directly by moderators whether she disavowed Jones, Spanberger would not confirm nor deny, saying instead that the decision would be left to voters.
Maybe if Jay Jones actually pulled a trigger Abigail Spanberger would ask him to drop out.

In another telling moment, Spanberger again would not respond when asked by Earle-Sears how she would react if her daughters came home crying about having to undress in a locker room with a biological boy.

The Democrat candidate had trouble hiding her radical views on transgender bathroom laws, instead claiming she would leave the issue to local municipalities — in other words, she backs trannies using women’s restrooms.

Earle-Sears also highlighted the recent arrest of a 58-year-old sex offender in Arlington, Va., who was charged with “indecent liberties with children, indecent exposure, child pornography possession, and sex offender proximity violations,” after he was allowed to use female locker rooms at two high schools while claiming he was a transgender woman.
