Image Credit: Screenshot EXCLUSIVE: CNN is reporting that Ed Martin is preparing to leave the Department of Justice in the coming weeks—but that claim is false, according to a source with direct knowledge of the matter.
Martin currently serves at the DOJ as the Pardon Attorney and leads the department’s “weaponization working group.” CNN reported that Martin, who has worked inside the Trump Justice Department for more than nine months after failing to secure Senate confirmation as U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., is “expected to leave the department in the coming weeks,” citing a source familiar with his plans.
However, a separate source tells me unequivocally that Martin has no plans to leave the DOJ.
According to this source, the CNN report appears to stem from internal efforts to push pro-MAGA officials out of the department. The information, they say, was likely planted by individuals seeking to undermine Martin amid ongoing internal power struggles.
Martin is widely regarded as one of the most outspoken MAGA-aligned officials inside the DOJ and one of the few actively challenging entrenched “Deep State” actors within the department—making him a frequent target.
