Image Credit: grok ai On Wednesday, former FBI Director James Comey surrendered to law enforcement after being indicted by a North Carolina federal grand jury Tuesday over a 2025 social media post where he shared an image of seashells laid out to read, “8647.”

The message was widely seen as a threat against President Trump, the 47th President of the United States, as to “86” something in the food industry means to kill it from the menu.
To “86” a person from a bar is also used as code for kicking someone out of an establishment.
CNN reported on Wednesday that Comey appeared in federal court in the Eastern District of Virginia and left with no conditions of release after a 10-minute hearing.
Comey was not asked to enter a plea, and his lawyers told the judge they’ll be filing motions accusing the Trump DOJ of politically prosecuting their client.
An arraignment date has yet to be set and it’s unclear when Comey will first be ordered to arrive in the North Carolina court as proceedings continue.
See Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announce Comey’s indictment Tuesday, saying the ex-FBI director could face up to 20 years in prison for threatening POTUS.
