DoJ Sues California To End Tuition Benefits for Illegals at State Colleges

US Attorney General Pam Bondi has filed a lawsuit against the state of California to end laws that provide in-state tuition rates, scholarships and subsidized loans to illegal immigrants

In-state tuition at most of California’s public colleges and universities is less than $10,000 a year, but out-of-state fees are more than $30,000. Around 103,000 illegal immigrants are enrolled at California colleges and universities, about one fifth of the nationwide total

US Attorney General Pam Bondi has filed a lawsuit against the state of California to end laws that provide in-state tuition rates, scholarships and subsidized loans to illegal immigrants.

In a statement, the Department of Justice (DoJ) said these laws are unconstitutional and discriminate against American citizens who are not afforded the same benefits.

“This marks our third lawsuit against California in one week,” Bondi said.

“We will continue bringing litigation against California until the state ceases its flagrant disregard for federal law.”

The lawsuit, which names Governor Gavin Newsom and agencies that oversee the state’s public university system, claims the “California Dream Act” is illegal and unconstitutional.

It cites two Executive Orders issued by President Trump since he returned to office. Both prohibit illegal immigrants from obtaining taxpayer benefits or preferential treatment.

In-state tuition at most of California’s public colleges and universities is less than $10,000 a year, but out-of-state fees are more than $30,000.

California’s Dream Center offers grants, loans, scholarships, legal assistance and campus support services for illegals.

Around 103,000 illegal immigrants are enrolled at California colleges and universities, about one fifth of the nationwide total.

The DoJ has already filed similar lawsuits against five states which provide discounted tuition to illegals. Texas, Oklahama and Kentucky have already complied with the DoJ and removed these benefits, while cases remain pending against Illinois and Minnesota.
