The Office of the Director of National Intelligence, led by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, has referred 2019 Trump impeachment whistleblower Eric Ciaramella and ex-DOJ Inspector General Michael Atkinson to the Justice Department for potential criminal investigation, according to Fox News Digital.
Gabbard wrote on Monday, “Newly-declassified records expose how deep state actors within the Intelligence Community concocted a false narrative that Congress used to usurp the will of the American people and impeach duly-elected President @realDonaldTrump in 2019.”
The new documents include previously unreleased transcripts of Atkinson’s closed-door testimony before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence that was not shared with the House Judiciary Committee during Trump’s 2019 impeachment.
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rick Crawford (R-Ark.) led the vote to release the files back in March, and now that they’ve been released, the transcripts show Atkinson failed to conduct basic due diligence and exceeded his authority by labeling President Trump’s call with Zelensky as an “urgent concern” for Congress.
Atkinson’s investigation also found Ciaramella showed indications of “political bias” and was “in favor of a rival political candidate,” but still labeled his claims an “urgent concern.”
Ciaramella’s complaint focused on a July 2019 Trump phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, where POTUS urged the European leader to open an investigation into the Biden family’s shady actions and business dealings in Ukraine.
Specifically, Trump suggested Zelensky look into Hunter Biden’s business relationship with Ukrainian natural gas firm Burisma Holdings as well as Joe Biden’s public admission that he had former Ukrainian prosecutor General Viktor Shokin “fired” for threatening to investigate Hunter.
