repossessed and utilities shut off, lost their child care, defaulted on loans, damaged
their credit line, and drained their retirement savings,” McNeill told the House Homeland Security Committee.

“Some are sleeping in their cars, selling their blood in plasma, and taking on second jobs to make ends meet, all while being expected to perform at the highest level when in uniform to protect the traveling public,” she continued.
The lapse in pay for TSA workers comes as a partial government shutdown going on week 5 has caused nearly 500 TSA employees to quit, leaving airport security understaffed and causing major travel disruptions, with Democrats refusing to sign a clean bill funding DHS due to it lacking reforms like banning masks for ICE agents.
âThis level of disruption is unprecedented and unacceptable and significantly undermines the security of U.S. transportation systems,â McNeill told lawmakers.
The hearing follows President Donald Trump’s deployment of ICE agents to US airports to assist understaffed workers.
