Two Democrat US House reps have penned a formal request asking US Attorney General Pam Bondi to respond to Elon Musk’s accusations that President Donald Trump is delaying the release of Epstein files because he’s in them.
“We ask that you immediately clarify whether this allegation is true and respond to this letter with the requested information and documentation,” reads the letter to FBI Director Kash Patel and AG Bondi from Reps. Stephen Lynch (Mass.) and Robert Garcia (Calif.) serving on the House Oversight Committee.
“Elon Musk, one of the President’s closest and most influential advisors, alleges that the President may be described in additional files related to this investigation,” the reps wrote. “This allegation implies that the President may be involved in determining which files should be released and whether files will be withheld from the public if he personally chooses to withhold them.”
The reps gave Bondi a June 20 deadline to respond with information on the DOJ’s timeline for declassification, its slow-walking of the file release, President Trump’s role in declassifying the documents, a list of people involved in the process, and details on previous redactions.
“Any attempts to prevent the appropriate release of the Epstein files to shield the President from truth and accountability merits intense scrutiny by Congress and by the Department of Justice (DOJ),” the reps noted.
The Democrat congressmen’s requests came as the official Democrat Party X account, @TheDemocrats, on Thursday similarly called for the release of the files, in spite of concerns the files could implicate high-profile Democrats like former President Bill Clinton.
Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell (Calif.) also urged, “Release the Epstein files NOW.”
While no official comment has been released, Trump has previously used Pedophile Island and the Epstein controversy to slam people like Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew.
FBI Director Patel told Joe Rogan it wasn’t likely Musk had any information beyond what’s been revealed.
“I don’t know how he would, but I’m just staying out of the Trump / Elon thing. That’s way outside my lane. I know my lane, and that ain’t it,” the FBI leader said.
During the 2024 presidential campaign, Trump told podcast host Lex Fridman he’d be willing to release the files, saying, “I’d certainly take a look at it…I’d be inclined to do the Epstein–I’d have no problem with it.”
“A lot of big people went to that island. But fortunately, I was not one of them,” Trump told Fridman.
