Kenny Loggins, the artist behind “Danger Zone,” asked for his hit song to be dropped from an AI-generated meme President Donald Trump shared over the weekend, depicting the commander in chief dumping feces on “No Kings” protest attendees.
“This is an unauthorized use of my performance of ‘Danger Zone,’” Loggins wrote in a statement Monday, regarding his chart-topping track featured in the “Top Gun” and “Top Gun Maverick” soundtracks. “Nobody asked me for my permission, which I would have denied, and I request that my recording on this video is removed immediately.”
“I can’t imagine why anybody would want their music used or associated with something created with the sole purpose of dividing us,” Loggins’ statement continued. “Too many people are trying to tear us apart, and we need to find new ways to come together. We’re all Americans, and we’re all patriotic. There is no ‘us and them’ – that’s not who we are, nor is it what we should be. It’s all of us. We’re in this together, and it is my hope that we can embrace music as a way of celebrating and uniting each and every one of us.”
The singer’s beef came after his song was featured in an AI meme shared by Trump Saturday evening, showing him flying a jet and dumping a brown substance widely assumed to be fecal matter over No Kings protesters.
Left-wing propagandist Harry Sisson, who was featured in the video getting drenched in “poop,” asked if a reporter could question Trump on the meme.
Vice President JD Vance notified him he’d ask Trump for him.
For what it’s worth, Trump on Air Force One was asked about the protests over the weekend, replying he’s no king.
Responding to Variety‘s request for comment on Loggins’ request for removal, a Trump admin official “simply sent a ‘Top Gun’ meme that reads: ‘I feel the need for speed.'”
